DIY'ing our Office Desk
The new home we bought has an office room. I knew I wanted to do something where I had my own space in the office. So, I searched through Pinterest and found this idea.
This project, like most of our projects, was so much work. The end result was great, but there were several missteps along the way. For the supports, we used three cabinets that we bought from Lowe's. We had to trim off most of the legs because the cabinets were so tall. Then we painted all three of them, which was a task. We set up a paint booth in our garage. We tried several ways to paint these cabinets. We finally found a paint gun that did a decent job. I will link it below. Ramtin and I don't enjoy painting, and this was no different. There were some runs in the paint, but it was the best we could do after trying several times. If I were to do this over again, I would just buy white cabinets.
Now on to the top! For the top, we wanted it to be thicker, so we used two sheets of plywood. The top is 4 ft x 8 ft cedar, and the bottom is low-grade plywood. They were both cut in half to have a 2 ft x 16 ft desk. So you did not see the two plywood pieces glued together, we used a cedar trim. We then sand and stained all the top pieces and put everything together in the office. When we placed everything in the office, we used wood glue and a small piece of extra wood to hold the middle joint together.
We then installed the pulls and added all our office equipment! We both love this desk and are enjoying it. We still want to add shelving to the wall, but that will come in due time.
